Develop an Attitude of Gratitude and Get All You Desire!

"Gratitude can transform common days into Thanksgiving,
 turn routine jobs into joy,
and change ordinary opportunities into blessings."
-William Arthur Ward

Last week I had the opportunity to visit a friend that I had not seen in a few years.  I agreed to come to her home, because I know how challenging it could be to meet for coffee when you have two children under the age of five.  She is currently separated from her verbally abusive husband, and wanted to catch up on the new events in her life.  As, I approached her one bed room apartment, I was wondering how she was doing with this life altering situation.  You see, her husband is a very successful business owner who had provided very nicely for them.  They had a lovely three thousand square foot home, with a nice pool and enormous back yard.   Financially they did very well so she was able to stay at home to care for her two boys.  Emotionally she has hurting, until now!

As she opened the door I was unable to recognize her.  She was radiant!  She looked happier and healthier than the last time I saw her, at her first baby’s baptism.  She had lost some weight and her children had grown.  When she welcomed me in, I notice her very cozy place, with mismatched furniture.  Nothing like the huge home she used to live in.  I complemented on the positive feel of her new place. She told me how grateful she had been that her church had donated almost everything in her apartment.  I was very impressed at how grateful and happy she was!  She told me that when she left her husband she had made a promise to herself that she was only going to focus on her blessings not on what she was leaving behind.  She knew it would not be easy to start over, but she also knew it would be better!  I was in awe of how her grateful nature and positive attitude had brought so many physical blessings to her life, but I was most impressed with how her gratitude had elevated her spirit!

Today, I am grateful to my friend for inspiring me to write about gratitude.  Today, I want to show you how gratitude can only make you realize how rich you already are physically and spiritually.  I also want you to realize that with gratitude you can attract more abundance to your life if you practice this wonderful virtue!  Here are four benefits of practicing gratitude in your life.

Gratitude lets you focus on positivity.
It is very hard to be negative in your life when you are focusing on all your blessings.  When you do this you make room for all the wonderful things that await for you.  You see, it's your positive energy that will reflect more positive things into your life.   My friend could have focused on all that she was giving up when she walked out of her very comfortable life style, but she decided to focus on her blessings instead.   She focused on her children,  her health and the support of her family and friends. I want you to get comfortable with feeling your blessings, big or small.  Focus on the small things like waking up, your supportive relationships that you have with others, and then the material things.  The goal to doing this is to pull that positive energy to your being, so you may get more of the things you desire.

Gratitude attracts what we want.
As I mentioned already, practicing gratitude will produce positive energy that will bring more of that energy.  You attract who you are not what you want.  If you are a person that is happy and always counts your blessing you will get more of that eventually getting what you want.  I believe that you must always be what you desire.  When you practice gratitude you will see how rich you are and your desires are just a cherry on top!  Again, it's that positive state that will let the universe know that you are worthy of receiving more because you are appreciative of what you have.

Gratitude helps us learn the lesson.
With gratitude walking by your side, you will learn the lesson quicker.  How is this you ask?  To be grateful for every bad situation that comes to your life, you discover that there is a silver lining to every dark cloud.  You will also get to step back and see what mistakes were made and how not make the same mistakes.  As you focus on lessons you can also see what blessings were brought to your life.  My friend realized that she was enabling her verbally abusive husband to continue to do this if she stayed.  She was grateful she did, and discovered her inner strength!

Gratitude improves relationships.
Being grateful for the things people do for you, brings more support from others.  My friend is very grateful for the people in her church, therefore she has developed solid relationship within this group. Being grateful for what other people do for you, will build strong bonds.  Think about those individuals that are grateful for your existence how do they make you feel?  How do you feel about them? How has your relationship with them grown?  My friend told me that she discovered wonderful friendships in her church, that she knows that these friends will be part of the rest of her life.  Show your appreciation for the people that impact your life, and most importantly let them know!

To have an attitude of gratitude is a matter of choice!  Decide every morning to thank God for waking up!  Start with the things we take for granted, such is your health, family, friends and move into the material things.  To be grateful requires dedication, but I promise you that when you consciously practice this virtue you will attract more of your desires to your life.  Until next Monday, Believe. Change. Become!

How to Change a Setback Into a Push Forward

"My strength did not come from lifting weights.
My strength came from lifting myself up when I was knocked down."
-Bob Moore

It was a complete pleasure of mine to have attended a workshop for business entrepreneurs last week. In this workshop I met two entrepreneurs at different phases in their business.  Entrepreneur 1, we will call Tom, was seeking knowledge, and inspiration to start the entrepreneurship journey.  Entrepreneur 2, we will call Antonio, was approaching the end of his entrepreneurship journey.  Both of these individuals had big desires, big dreams but only one had experienced all the major setbacks and failures that can stop you in your tracks.

Tom, was man who was seeking to open a restaurant and wanted to get inspired.  The lack of confidence was the result of many of his friends and family members predicting major failures that can be part of being a business owner.  Antonio, was a restaurant owner who was very open about all his failures, but was also very candid with his success.  From having IRS auditing his business, a very difficult divorce to having to close a previous business.  To his business being recognized as business of the year last year, there had been a definite push forward!  Both these men had two things in common dreams and setbacks.  Today let’s focus on four effective strategies for making into a push forward.

Know that set backs are part of the game.
If you understand that in your journey to your becoming you will stumble and fall, you are ready for the game!  You can’t have acceptance and not have felt rejection.  You can’t have conquered if you have not struggled.  When you fail you are supposed to learn something from the fall.  There are lessons that need to be learned to make you a better leader in your family, work or business.  The difference between the successful and the unsuccessful is how many times the successful will get up.  Antonio, hit the ground seven times and got up eight!  The unsuccessful believe that if they fail once or twice they must give up.  To follow dreams you must have the will to see it through!

Step back and reflect on the lesson.
You have failed when you don’t step back and learn the lesson.  Analyze the situation and see how you can avoid such event in the future.  For example, Antonio failed in a previous business because he was not smart with the financials.  He did not hire the right people to balance his books.  Now he knows the importance of this and his business is thriving.  The reality is that failure is part of success so learn from it and move on!

Adopt a positive and perseverant mind.
It's your mind that will carry you through!  It’s all about your belief system.  Are you teaching your mind to see the good in every situation?  Are you focusing on the things that are working and changing the things that are not?  If you are, good for you!  If not, you have some work to do!  A positive mind will not stop, while a negative mind will quit before the finish line.  Stay positive to persevere!

Always imagine a better future.
It should be evident by now that success and failure dance together!  Yet, you will decide who will take the lead.  Imagine yourself five years from now.  Who will you be?  Know that a better future is waiting for you.  Know that all your hard work and dedication will not be wasted. I understand that this may be easier said than done, but believe me nothing is forever!  You will overcome anything that comes your way if you decide to do so.  Nothing great ever came easy and don’t forget that the difficulties that you may go through on your journey are preparing you for something AMAZING!

So, “Will it be easy?” you ask. “NO!” “Will it be worth it?” Absolutely!  It is my desire to motivate you to be on your journey to success.  Remember, you have what it takes to be successful.  Don’t forget to learn the lessons so you can persevere.  Let me know if anything I said today resonated with you in any way! Until next Monday, Believe. Change. Become!

How to Step Out of Your Past and Live in Joy!

"Joy is what happens to us when we allow
ourselves to recognize how good things are."
-Marianne Williamson

These days I have made it my personal mission to only surround myself with people that are positive, optimistic, driven and most importantly bring joy to others.  I have been blessed that my close circle reflects these attributes, but I have one particular friend that takes the cake!  This friend we shall call “Felicia,” because I have not asked permission to write about her.  Felicia, is a woman that you can tell has been through some hard things in her life.  There is pain in her eyes yet her positive energy and forever smile tries to hide this fact.   I say you can tell, because in the few months that I have been blessed to have her in my life, she has never shared her story.  You know that childhood story from the past that many have lived.  That story that can bring you to your knees.  I know she has that story because I can be very intuitive.  Yet, I respect her for her strength, but most of all I respect her for her joy and how she transcends this wonderful emotion to others.   Felicia, walks into a room and is in awe of every person she encounters.  She is fascinated by every positive thing she experiences and practice gratitude for everything she has.  Her wonderful pleasant personality makes one believe that all is possible!  She makes the ordinary feel extraordinary and is a true visionary.  She is determined to be successful and I know she will!  Felicia, inspired me to write about JOY in this post and how joy can change your life.  Here are the four things you need to do to have a more joyful human experience!

Tell your present story.
We all have a story.  We have all been hurt by people we loved, who should have loved us better.  Staying in the past can make you bitter never better.  Sometimes we may feel that if we share it one last time with someone it will heal something in us, but it never does!  Accept your trials from the past and learn the lesson.  As I already mentioned my friend Felicia, has a sad story.  Her story is one of hardship and pain.  Yet, she has decided to not share it or dwell on the past so she can move to a better future.  I am not saying that we should not share our stories of pain with counselors, psychologist, best friends, or loved ones, but not with random people.  One may think that sharing your story helps you heal, but if you use your story to get sympathy you will fail.  Living in the past keeps you in the past.  Live for the future by being present and looking forward to your future.  Forgive yourself, as well as the people that may have caused you pain.  Forgive them not for their sake, but because you want peace with your past.  Give yourself the opportunity to get to know what your future self is capable of becoming and only share your present story!

Believe and be Joyful!
Believe that you deserve and are capable of receiving joy!  Felicia, radiates positive energy all the time.  She is full of confidence and people love to be around her.  You need to believe that you are the creator of your energy of your existence.  If you seek joy, peace and love you will find it.  If you believe in fear, pain and disappointment you will find that too!  Change your belief system and change your life.  See joy and joyful you will be!

Show gratitude and happiness shall follow.
To have a positive mind you need to show gratitude for everything that is working for you.  Focus on what is working and let go of what is not.  Gratitude is a way of staying in joy.  Gratitude put’s things into perspective, by making you see that in retrospect your life is not that bad.  To change your feelings in your heart you first have to let gratitude in. Think about the effect of having a heart filled with gratitude will bring to your life!

Surround yourself with people that make your light brighter.
You are the company that you keep!  Choose the people that will bring you joy and bring out the best in you.  It is that positive energy that you need to live in joy.  If someone is dragging you down with negativity it is OK to limit or eliminate them from your life.  It is also OK to seek those that radiate positive energy.  Remember, you have the power to bring only people who contribute to your personal growth and eliminate those who demise it!

What will it be?  To live in joy or to continue in the past?  Please choose to be like my friend Felicia!  Choose gratitude, let go of the past and believe that you are the creator of your present and inventor of your future!  Until next time Believe. Change. Become!

Conquer Your Fears to Acquire Your Dreams!

"All your dreams can come true,
if we have the courage to pursue them."
-Walt Disney

I have been asked to come to speak to a group of women on the topic of dreams and pursuing passion.  These are women that have forgotten about their dreams and may also have a hard time identifying their passion.  Yet, I am up for the challenge!  The reason is because I do believe that we are all born with dreams and passion, but then life happens!  Life asks us to be practical and reasonable.  Life asks us to conform to it not to challenge it!  I believe that it is in our nature to be passionate dreamers, but we should be dreamers with objectives.  I believe that it is our responsibility to recall what we were meant to do, how we were supposed to contribute to our world!  My passion is to help people come alive.  I do this by helping people identify their passion.  I was awaken from my slumber, when I remembered my reason for being here.  I became alive, when I rediscovered my dream of helping others with their dreams.

It sounds like an easy job right?   I have discovered that many would agree that following your passion and making your dreams come true is important, but not everyone is up to the challenge.  Why not?  The reason is that life happens.  Reality like kids, bills, jobs, and other responsibilities get in the way.  But what if I told you that following your dreams and living your passion is actually good for your health!  Why not try?  Why not recall why you are here?  Today we will discuss the four reasons why you should be a dreamer.

Your dreams make you unique.
In one of my talks I tell my audience that my dreams were given to me to accomplish them.  I also ask my audience, “Who has a dreams of being an inspirational speaker?” maybe one or two hands go up.  I remind my audience that we were not all given the same dream.   Even if it sounds like the same dream we all will do it differently because there are no two souls that are the same.  You are unique!  You have your own thumbprint.  You have to discover what you love to do, “what you are passionate about.”  So that you can uncover your uniqueness.

Dreams will encourage action.
When you give your dreams a chance you discover that action is needed. Your dreams will make you move!  A dream without a plan will stay a dream.  Set goals for your dreams.  Make a habit to devote an hour a day to your dreams.  Your goals will direct you to your dreams.  Your goals will ensure that you give your dreams a chance.  You are going to need a plan a road map and most importantly the courage to persevere with your dreams.  Remember, every action takes you closer to your dreams.  Keep on moving!

You will practice courage.
When decide to follow your dreams you discover your strength!  To be have dreams is not for the weak of heart.  You will stumble, you will fall and you will get up again.  Dreamers know that when fear overtakes them, they don’t stop.  They keep going!  You will also discover the incredible things you are able to accomplish.  You will see how many negative situations you will plow yourself through.  And that my friends will develop your strength and courage!

You become the light for others.
What makes me come alive is inspiring others to follow their dreams.  When you pursue your dreams you give the permission for others to do the same.  When you decide to not settle, not give in, you discover that your true essence.   We need you to inspire us to be dreamers.  When you succeed you let others know that anything is possible.  So, become the light to others, point others to their destiny!

Every day that I wake up I am grateful for my life.  I am full of joy!  I am in admiration where my dreams have taken me.  I am optimistic and very happy with what my future holds for me.  I desire this for you!  I want you to someday say that you lived your dreams and not your fears.  I want you to be the light for others.  I want you to believe that your desires were given to you to be accomplished!  What are you dreams?  Ignore your fears and go after them!  Until next Monday, Believe. Change. Become.
